Interview With Laleh Chini

I am very happy to share this interview with you. I should have posted this earlier but I was so busy with all the school work. This interview was beautiful and lovely and if I wouldn’t mind if I could do it over and over again. So, sit back and enjoy the great read:

  • Would you love to introduce yourself?

I am a mother of two children, Amir and Abnoos, and wife to Hassan Mosleh. I was born in Iran, Shiraz, in 1968, and moved to the USA in 1986. I got married in 1987 and moved to Canada, where I still lives today. I started the “A Voice from Iran” blog as a platform in August, 2017. My daughter and I published “Climbing Over Grit” with Wisehouse Publishing/l’Aleph in 2018 and won the “Canada Book Award.” I am a Member of Authors Without Borders. http://l-aleph.com/laleh-chini/

I published: “The Endless Sunset” in April 2021.
Soroosh” in January 2021 and won the “Canada Book Award” in the same month.

30 Short Stories by Laleh Chini, was published in February 2021

Children’s Book:

Mr. Pipe and His Friends
A Very Good Boy
World’s Words ‘Farm’
Adorable Little Friend
What Do You Want to Be? (winner of Canada Book ftAward)

  • When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I was twenty years old and pregnant with my first child, Amir.

  • When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I designed the series of “World’s Words” an education book for children and ESL students, but I published it in 2021, 32 years later.

  • What does your family think of your writing?

Families are always supportive, and they are the author’s first fans, LOL.

  • What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

The beautiful reviews.

  • How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?

I have a total of 9 books.

“Climbing Over Grit” a memoir
“Soroosh” a fiction Novel
“30 Short Stories by Laleh Chini” a collection of 30 short stories
“The Endless Sunset” an adult picture book, an adventure through WWII

And 5 children’s book;

Mr. Pipe and His Friends
A Very Good Boy
World’s Words ‘Farm’
Adorable Little Friend
What Do You Want to Be? (winner of Canada Book Award)

  • Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?                    Just be yourself. Don’t change anything, because one person doesn’t like your style. Stay passionate and work hard on your path. Never give up.
  • Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do  say?

I am very lucky that all my dear readers were very kind about my books, so far.

  • How would you support young writer with limited resources and experience?

“You Can Do It.”
Pick up a pen and start writing. One day all those silly notes will push you to finish what you started.

  • What do you think makes a good story?

We have millions of different readers in the world, so write what makes you happy and satisfy.

  • Are you happy with your career as an Author?

I am very grateful.

  • What motivates you as an Author?

Reader’s encouragements, reviews, comments, and kind words.

  • What was it like while writing your award-winning book “Climbing Over Grit?”

I cried every time that I had to re-read for editing, adding and fixing. Those memories are hard to put aside.

  • What did you do differently while writing “Soroosh?”

Soroosh is a fiction. Even though it was a made-up story, I cried several times while writing it.

  • What genre of novels do you hope to create?

It’s very hard to say. I have had a very tough path in life, but it is very hard to bring all those horrible memories on paper, it affects me a lot and makes me sad for a long period of time. So I try to stay away from memoir.

  • Who is your favorite author?

Honestly, I can’t name only one. There are many from the past and present.

  • What are some of your interests outside of writing?

I like painting. I am working on my French and Piano.

  • What do you think a writer like me should add to my experience?

Keep all your ideas on paper, even if you think it’s silly. You will change it when you are more mature, but you won’t remember them if you don’t have a note of them.

  • My blog would need a touch of someone or something special, would you love to work with me?

Feel free to re-blog my stories if you like.

  • What is your greatest desire as an author of an award-winning book?

Peace for the world. Happiness for people. No sickness ever for anyone, especially children and young people. No crime, drugs in any society. No poverty, no borders. Freedom, kindness, and equality.

  2. It was a happy interview. I like reading both of you. Laleh is a simple and sweet writer, however, Anna is funnier.

One important point I want to mention here about you both is that you’re kind and supportive, don’t believe in showoff.

Thank you for the beautiful interview. Keep up the good work. 👍
